Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Developers Discuss New Features and Inspirations in Recent Gameplay & Commentary Trailer

New gameplay footage and details for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse have been revealed in a showcase from The Triple-i Initiative. The gameplay footage showcases protagonist, Sonia Belmont traversing Notre-Dame in previously unseen areas and encountering a boss, Joan of Arc. Teased at the end of the trailer is the emergence of the iconic Dracula’s Castle.

Developers from Evil Empire, as well as Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse producer Tsutomu Taniguchi, revealed more details in a post-showcase developer interview. Art Director Dyn Mordache discussed why the team chose Paris as the location for the game saying, “Paris is natural theatre for a lot of Gothic architecture, which fits great with the Castlevania universe.”

The team also added that Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and Castlevania: Symphony of The Night were the main inspirations of the game.

Taniguchi closed the trailer by saying, “I am beyond thrilled and ecstatic that we’re finally able to bring a new entry to the series. At the same time, while I do feel a great deal of pressure, the overwhelmingly positive response we’ve received since announcing the project has made me even more motivated and determined.”
