Metroid: Samus Returns Walkthrough: amiibo

Samus Returns is the first mainline Metroid entry to include amiibo functionality, with some game modes – albeit, controversially – only being able to be unlocked by scanning amiibo. A two-pack of Samus Returns amiibo was released alongside the game. Below is a list of all compatible amiibo and what it unlocks.

Samus (Samus Return series)

Unlocks: An Aeion reserve tank. Once you have run out of Aeion, this reserve tank will kick in and refill your Aeion gauge a decent amount.

Additionally, scanning this amiibo again after you’ve beaten the game at least once on any difficulty unlocks a Metroid II: Return of Samus image gallery.

Metroid (Samus Returns series)

Unlocks: A map feature called Metroid Marker, which will pinpoint the nearest Metroid location on your map.

More importantly, scanning the Metroid amiibo after you’ve beaten the game at least once on any difficulty unlocks Fusion Difficulty, an incredible challenge that raises the damage given by enemies to almost-instant-death levels. Fusion Difficulty is required to obtain all of the endings in Samus Returns.

Samus (Super Smash Bros. series)

Unlocks: A missile reserve tank. Once you have used all of your missiles, this reserve tank will kick in and refill you with 50 regular missiles OR with 10 Super Missiles – depending on which runs out first.

Additionally, scanning this amiibo again after you’ve beaten the game at least once on any difficulty unlocks a Samus Returns image gallery.

Zero Suit Samus (Super Smash Bros. series)

Unlocks: An energy reserve tank. Once you have run out of health, this reserve tank will kick in and refill you with 3 Energy Tanks.

Additionally, scanning this amiibo again after you’ve beaten the game at least once on any difficulty unlocks a sound test mode, where you can listen to the games OST.
