Shot Expansions 

Here you’ll find the location for every Missile Expansion in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, as well as detailed explanations on how to get them and what powerups you’ll need. Expansions have been listed in order of your first chance to pick them up during the game, although that may vary by player to player, particularly from the point where you acquire all powerups in the game (for example, we chose to collect all items in order of Fury Green>Volt Forge>Ice Belt>Great Mines>Flare Pool>Sol Valley, but you may differ!).

Shot Expansion #1

Location: Isopod Lair, Fury Green

Requirements: Fire Shot

 

Use your fire shot to burn away some foliage in the center of the room and you’ll see Shot Expansion #1 behind it.


Shot Expansion #2

Location: Ravine Overlook, Fury Green

Requirements: Fire Shot

 

Similar to Shot Expansion #1, just use your Fire Shot to burn some foliage and claim Shot Expansion #2. You can find this foliage on the north wall, next to the largest waterwall.


Shot Expansion #3

Location: Cargo Launcher to Temple of Memory, Sol Valley (J2, Map)

Requirements: Fire Shot, Psychic Boots

 

You can find the chamber this is in either behind the entrance to Fury Green or in a hallway southeast of the launcher itself. Go to the end of the hall and blast away some webbing with your Fire Shot; blast away three sets and you’ll see Shot Expansion sitting there.


Shot Expansion #4

Location: Sacred Flame Ceremony, Fury Green

Requirements: Fire Shot

 

Stand in the center of the room on the pressure plate and use your Psychic Visor to move the ring in front of each circular statue. Lining up the ring in front of the statue will reveal an unlit torch inside; move the ring (don’t forget to move it front and back in addition to side to side) and use your Fire Shot to light all the torches and then a door will open, leading you right to Shot Expansion #4. The exact sequence for moving the ring from its default position is: Right, Shoot, Right, Down, Right, Shoot, Right, Down, Left, Shoot.


Shot Expansion #5

Location: Jungle Path, Fury Green

Requirements: Fire Shot, Psychic Bombs

 

Find some foliage in the upper right corner of the room, just below the ledge with the tunnel leading out of the room, and burn it down, exposing Shot Expansion #5. Enter the Morph Ball tunnel and jump into it.


Shot Expansion #6

Location: Snowfield, Ice Belt

Requirements: Fire Shot

 

Right underneath the pile of rubble and debris to the right side of the area (directly behind the scout bot), circle around and you’ll see a small layer of ice blocking a small Morph Ball tunnel. Melt it and roll inside to grab Shot Expansion #6.


Shot Expansion #7

Location: Security Gates, Ice Belt

Requirements: Psychic Bombs

 

Look for a small piece of cracked glass covering a Morph Ball tunnel. Break it and roll through to grab Shot Expansion #7.


Shot Expansion #8

Location: Tracking Operations, Ice Belt

Requirements: Psychic Lasso

 

Immediately after acquiring the Grapple Lasso, use it on the cover obstructing the bomb slot in the corner and a Morph Ball icon will appear in the tunnel, allowing you to ride a loft back up to the Morph ball tunnel you entered the room in. Before actually getting in, however, follow the tracks with your eyes and you’ll see two sections of the tunnel along the ceiling that need to be yanked down. Use the Lasso and bring both tunnels down until the track is aligned. Hop in the lift and roll over to get Shot Expansion #8!


Shot Expansion #9

Location: Lower Airlock, Ice Belt

Requirements: Psychic Bombs

 

Once the power has been restored to the Lamorn Research Facility, make your way back up to the Lower Airlock. Lay a psychic bomb, grab it, and use it to activate the bomb slot above the sealed side of the room. When you enter, you’ll see three pods- turn around and you’ll see a fourth, with a crate in front of it.  Last the crate, open the pod, and your Shot Expansion will be there!


Shot Expansion #10

Location: Ring of Stone Shrine, Sol Valley

Requirements: Control Beam, Ice Shot to enter the Shrine

 

Once you’ve cleared your way through the Shrine and are facing the Lamorn Statue, turn around and you’ll see an opening in the ceiling with some purple Psychic energy surrounding it. Shoot a Control Beam into the opening to activate a Morph Ball tunnel opening behind the statue. Roll through and grab Shot Expansion #10.


Shot Expansion #11

Location: Fountain of Tranquility, Fury Green

Requirements: Ice Shot, Psychic Glove, Psychic Boots

 

After acquiring the Ice Shot, head back to the Sacred Flame Ceremony room and use your new ability to enter the Fountain of Tranquility. You’ll see two fountains- one fountain will be sprouting water and pushing up a platform above it, while the other is dormant. Quickly freeze the fountain on the left, move the Psychic mote over to the fountain on the right and jump on top of the frozen fountain on the left. Now freeze the fountain on the right, jump over, and Space Jump up to elevated center platform to see Shot Expansion #11.


Shot Expansion #12

Location: Archives, Volt Forge

Requirements: Psychic Lasso, Psychic Boots

 

In this room, you’ll see crates suspended from the ceiling; get to the far side of the crates and you’ll see the crates hanging on the right and left have linchpins that can be pulled off. Do so and both crates will fall to the ground. Use the crates as platforms and Space Jump up, all the way until you land on top of the third, still hung from the ceiling, crate. Pull a pin in the middle with your Lasso and the create and it will go falling to the ground, busting open to reveal Shot Expansion #12 inside


Shot Expansion #13

Location: Lava Lake Bridge, Flare Pool

Requirements: Vi-O-La IC, Psychic Boost Ball

 

You won’t be able to get this on your first visit to Flare Pool. Once you’re able to cross the lake of lava on the upgraded Vi-O-La IC hoverbike (how awesome is this bike??), you’ll see a Psychic Boost track on the right; enter it and you’ll boost right into this Expansion.


Shot Expansion #14

Location: Inspection Station, Flare Pool

Requirements: Psychic Bombs, Fire Shot

 

In the upper right corner of the room, you’ll find a Morph Ball tunnel entrance covered by some highly flammable metal. Use the Fire Shot to melt away the metal, roll into the tunnel, bomb a piece of equipment blocking your way, and you’ll roll into Shot Expansion #14.


Shot Expansion #15

Location: Cargo Staging Area, Fury Green

Requirements: Thunder Shot

 

After acquiring the Thunder Shot from Base Camp, head to Cargo Staging Area and electrify both ends of the large capsule in the room to have Shot Expansion #15 pop out.


Shot Expansion #16

Location: Rods of Transference, Fury Green

Requirements: Thunder Shot

 

Enter from the Sacred Flame Ceremony room and use your Psychic Visor to adjust the three conduits at the top of the room so that they are level with and pointing at the plant in the center of the room. Once in position, shoot the tip of the conduits with your Thunder Shot, causing the plant to open and reveal Shot Expansion #16.


Shot Expansion #17

Location: Floating Path Shrine, Sol Valley

Requirements: Thunder Shot, Psychic Glove

 

When arriving at the Shrine, press forward until you’re in a large room with Psychic Mote slots along the edges of the walls. Grab a mote and carry it down towards the bottom of the room. If you go all the way back and turn around, you’ll see a mote slot; put the mote in there and a tunnel will open up containing Shot Expansion #17.


Shot Expansion #18

Location: Falling Labyrinth Shrine, Sol Valley

Requirements: Thunder Shot

 

Once you’ve made it to the central room in the Shrine, centered by a Lamorn statue pointing upwards, drop down to the floor of the room and blast away some Green Energy deposits. Doing so will reveal a Morph Ball tunnel to an alcove in the center of the room, directly underneath the statue. Roll through and grab Shot Expansion #18.


Shot Expansion #19

Location: Equipment Storage, Ice Belt

Requirements: Psychic Spider Ball

 

After grabbing the Psychic Spider Ball, backtrack to the Equipment Storage room and climb up the Spider Tracks. Follow the track all the way until you roll right into Shot Expansion #19.


Shot Expansion #20

Location: Surgery Conduit, Ice Belt

Requirements: Psychic Spider Ball, Psychic Boost Ball, Psychic Bombs

 

Once in the Morph ball tunnel, look for a Spider Track going upwards and climb up it. You’ll see a jolt of electricity running from right to left, with a moment of respite in between. Charge up your boost and when the coast is clear, unleash it! If you timed it right, you won’t get electrocuted AND you’ll end up on a small platform right above Shot Expansion #20. Bomb it and grab your prize!


Shot Expansion #21

Location: Command Center, Great Mines

Requirements: Psychic Lasso, Psychic Boots

 

In the hall beside the Map Room, look upwards and use your Psychic Visor to locate a panel in the ceiling. Scan the panel again and then use your Lasso to pull the panel off, exposing Shot Expansion #21.


Shot Expansion #22

Location: Main Shaft – Level 2, Great Mines

Requirements: Psychic Boost Ball

 

Once you reached the center silo of the room, look for the Psychic Boost Track just to the right of the Tether Node. Enter it and you’ll go racing right into Shot Expansion #22.


Shot Expansion #23

Location: Quarry, Great Mines

Requirements: Super Missiles, Psychic Lasso, Psychic Bombs

 

Shoot the red lock with a Super Missile to destroy it, and then yank a latch off the wall to expose a Morph Ball tunnel for you to slip into. Follow the directions in the video below and you’ll snag Shot Expansion #23!


Shot Expansion #24

Location: Crystal Crevice, Great Mines

Requirements: Psychic Grapple, Psychic Boots

 

When you enter the room, immediately turn around and you’ll see a Crystal Crawler on the wall. Grapple it and you’ll be propelled upwards and able to jump across the two stone arms protruding out of the wall. Shot Expansion #24 will be awaiting atop of the second arm.


Shot Expansion #25

Location: Main Shaft – Level 3, Volt Forge

Requirements: Psychic Spider Ball, Control Beam

 

To the left of the elevator shaft, there is a Psychic Energy Conversion Slot sitting beside some Spider Tracks. The Spider Tracks aren’t powered on, however, so shoot the slot and quickly crawl up the Spider Tracks to a ledge. You won’t have enough time before the power gives out to go all the way up to where the Shot Expansion is, so un-morph on the ledge and fire a Control Beam to reactivate the Conversion Slot. Quickly scale up and grab the Shot Expansion.


Shot Expansion #26

Location: Tower 2: Elevator 2, Volt Forge

Requirements: Psychic Boots, Psychic Grapple

 

Clear the room of all the Psy-Bots and then look up and activate a Psychic Grapple Point. Then, from the entrance of the room, wait for the single block to appear at the upper-most left set of statue blocks. Jump on, quickly turn around and jump to grapple the Psychic Grapple Point. Turn and then grapple the point on the wall, which will put you right beside Shot Expansion #26.


Shot Expansion #27

Location: Tower 1 Generator, Volt Forge

Requirements: Psychic Grapple or Psychic Lasso

 

There are two ways to reach this Shot Expansion. The easier method is to use the Lasso to open a cargo tunnel in Tower 1: Elevator 1 and traverse it using Morph Ball. Alternatively, if you’re already down here from the main entrance, you can use the Grapple to reach the platform on the southeast part of the room. You’ll find Shot Expansion #27 in one of the boxes on the platform, which you can just shoot to open.


Shot Expansion #28

Location: Tower 2 Generator, Volt Forge

Requirements: Psychic Bombs, Psychic Spider Ball or Thunder Shot

 

There are two ways to get this one.

If you’re cool, you’ll do it from the main entrance. This one is crazy and will require you to Spider Ball across a track, drop down, and catch yourself with the Psychic Morph Ball node to propel yourself a few times over. Check out the full video below for precise details. Make sure you scan the Psychic Morph Ball nodes before embarking! Once you’ve made it to the other side, blast open a container to reveal Shot Expansion #28.

Alternatively, you can just use Thunder Shot on the Cargo Launcher from Tower 2: Elevator 1.


Shot Expansion #29

Location: Manufacturing Floor, Tower 1, Volt Forge

Requirements: Psychic Spider Ball, Psychic Boost Ball

 

When you enter the room, you’ll need to go through the Morph Ball entrance, avoiding the electrified parts until you see a Spider Track. Follow it inside the center of the Power Connector. There will be magnetic glass all around you which your Spider Ball can stick to. Unfortunately, there will also be a current going up every couple seconds, so you’ll need to move fast.

You can take refuge above any parts of the glass that are sticking out; make your way quickly yet cautiously to the top, and once there, boost to the other side where you can finally roll up and grab your Shot Expansion.


Shot Expansion #30

Location: Collapsed Catwalk, Tower 1, Volt Forge

Requirements: Psychic Grapple, Psychic Bombs

 

In the bottom left corner of the room, yank off a latch covering a Morph Ball tunnel with your Lasso. Roll through and destroy a Maintenance Bot using a couple bombs; continue on and you’ll roll right into Shot Expansion #30.


Shot Expansion #31

Location: Sol Valley (B20, Map)

Requirements: Two Tokabi conversations

 

Speak to Tokabi for a third time, this time at the Galactic Federation Debris in the northern most part if the map, in the middle of the entrances to the Great Mines and Ice Belt. Listen to his story and he will give you Shot Expansion #31.


Shot Expansion #32

Location: Entrance to Great Mines, Sol Valley (C29, Map)

Requirements: Super Missiles, Psychic Grapple

 

Turn around once you’ve reached the elevator that will lead down into the Great Mines and you’ll see a Grapple point. Pull yourself up and then use a Super Missile to destroy the lock blocking your access to a Morph Ball tunnel. Roll inside and you’ll roll right into Shot Expansion #32.


Shot Expansion #33

Location: Scrapyard, Flare Pool

Requirements: Psychic Power Bombs, Psychic Spider Ball

 

Lay a Power Bomb at the base of a large protruding piece of debris and the way to a Spider Track will open. Roll inside and scale upwards and you’ll run right into Shot Expansion #33.


Shot Expansion #34

Location: Lava Lake Bridge, Flare Pool

Requirements: Psychic Spider Ball

 

On the right side of the room, directly beside the scout bot, use the Tether Nodes to launch yourself up and right into this Shot Expansion. Time your jumps so you don’t get blown away by the steam!


Shot Expansion #35

Location: Undercarriage, Flare Pool

Requirements: Psychic Grapple Lasso, Missiles

 

From the topside of the Undercarriage room, use your Grapple Lasso on a gate lock and break it off, allowing you to scan a terminal, activating the elevator. Ride the elevator down into this new room and use a missile on the gate guarding this Shot Expansion.


Shot Expansion #36

Location: Pressure Monitoring, Flare Pool

Requirements: Thunder Shot, Psychic Lasso

 

Make your way to the Boiler Room and you should see doors with Thunder Locks on them. Break them off and enter the new room. You’ll see a giant generator with two lockers on either side and a large hatch that can be pulled off. Use your Lasso to yank it free, and then use your Thunder Shot to energize the center console. This will power the generator, opening both lockers to reveal a Shot Expansion and a Missile Expansion.


Shot Expansion #37

Location: Energy Injection, Flare Pool

Requirements: Psychic Grapple

 

Follow the grapple points up to the top of the room and then grapple across where this Shot Expansion will be floating on a platform.


Shot Expansion #38

Location: Volcano Heart, Flare Pool

Requirements: Vi-O-La IC

 

Return to the Volcano Heart and navigate the debris. You’ll find this expansion next to a “ramp” on the west side of the room.
