Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Walkthrough – Missable Scans

Missable Scans

Here you’ll find a list of every missable scan in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. We’ve broken the missable scans down into different categories which you can easily navigate to below, as well as added analysis on when the scans become unavailable.

Biology

Gal Fed – Galactic Federation Trooper

You’ll find plenty of these soldiers fighting throughout the invasion on Tanamaar. Make sure you scan one before the Aberax fight, otherwise you’ll miss your chance as this is technically a separate scan from the named Galactic Federation soldiers you’ll meet during the main adventure.

Sylux Forces – Space Pirate

Just like the Trooper from before, you won’t get any chances after the intro on Tanamaar to scan the Space Pirates, so do it ASAP.

Sylux Forces – Aberax

Here we have a classic case of a one-time boss battle scan. Make sure you add Aberax to your logbook before you get down to business!

Sylux Forces – Sylux

Listen, I know you want to completely pulvarize this guy right now. Completely understandable. Before we get too trigger happy though, take a second to add him to your logbook. Now, where were we?

Sylux Forces – Lockjaw

Just like in Metroid Prime Hunters, the Lockjaw is its own unique logbook entry separate from Sylux. This is the final scan in the game, so get that 100% and let the beatdown commence!

Viewros – Carvex Vine

Much like the infamous Flaahgra Tentacle from the original Metroid Prime, the Carvex Vine is its own dedicated logbook entry that can only be scanned during the fight. Carvex itself is one of the few bosses that can be scanned at any time via the psychic projector in the Sanctum of the Guardians, a first for the Metroid Prime series. This does not apply to its Vines and Pollen Sacs however, so securing these scans is CRUCIAL!

Viewros – Carvex’s Pollen Sac

Yes, the Pollen Sac is also its own dedicated scan. Carvex will start hurling them in the air during the second phase of the fight, so keep your eyes peeled and scan them before you forget.

Viewros – Varmis

You’ll start seeing these creatures popping up on the east side of Sol Valley in the pit after you collect the Ice Belt’s Master Teleporter Key. You’ll eventually have to fight one near the end of the game to collect a Mech Part, but once you defeat it, no more will spawn on the map. Get this one early while you still have time!

Viewros – Snow Wolf

While not technically a boss, the Snow Wolf pack is still a one-time encounter. Be sure to scan one before you start blasting!

Viewros – Swim Snatcher

You’ll find this creature in the Flare Pool when you revisit the Volcano Heart (where you fought Phenoros) after the cannon explodes. You’ll be tempted to take it down after it steals an Energy Tank from you, but be sure to add it to your logbook first!

Viewros – Behemoth

You’ll fight this enemy in the Flare Pool’s Expansion Site for a Mech Part. Scan it first, then rain fire!

Viewros – Omega Griever

This is the ONLY Master Teleporter Key boss that can’t be rescanned at the Sanctum of the Guardians as it is not an assigned guardian in the game’s lore. It’s always a good habit to scan these bosses during the fight instead of waiting to do so at the Sanctum, and this example is a good reason why.

Machines

Viewros – Scout Bot

You’ll find one of these bots in each of the main areas on Viewros, including Sol Valley. Shooting them with the Thunder Shot will briefly activate them to reveal every item in the area before permanently shutting down. Once they’re shut down, their scan cannot be added to the logbook. You won’t be able to activate them until the last third of the game, so this is a good one to get out of the way early on.

Viewros – Flight Drone MCU

You’ll fight two of these in the Volt Forge, but after that you’re out of luck. The first fight will take place after activating the Tower 2 Generator, while the second fight takes place much later in the game. During your second visit after obtaining the Vi-O-La IC Suit, you’ll be confronted by the last one in the Facility Approach as you exit Volt Forge.

Viewros – Heavy Maintenance Tank

You’ll fight this mechanoid in the Flare Pool the first time you step foot into the Entry Bay. After the fight it will be replaced by a Psy-bot on subsequent visits, so make sure you scan it as soon as it shows up!

Viewros – Hover Shuttle Transport

Sylux will ambush you in this vehicle as you work with Duke and Armstrong to disable the Flare Pool’s cannon. A boss fight will then take place at the Control Room Bridge, where you’ll get one opportunity to scan it before its destroyed.

Technology

Research – Psychic Container

You’ll find these located throughout the various areas of Viewros. They require the Psychic Glove to trace the paths laid out in the locking mechanism in order to unlock the item within. Once you’ve unlocked a container however, it doesn’t respawn. Be sure to take care of this early since you’ll have your visor open anyways.

Research – Green Energy Crystal

You’ll be collecting A LOT of these throughout the game. You’ll find a small sample of these in Fury Green as well as the Shrines, but you’ll primarily be cracking these open on the surface of Sol Valley. Make sure to scan one of these crystal formations if you’re planning on going for 100%. Once they’re gone, they’re GONE!
