Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Walkthrough – Shrine Guide

Shrine Guide

Here you’ll find the location for, requirements to enter, and detailed steps to completing every Shrine located in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, plus a list of rewards and optional Expansions hidden within! Use the navigation tool to quickly navigate to the Shrine you need.

Ladder Of Thought Shrine

Requirements to Complete: Fire Shot

Rewards: Charged Fire Shot, Energy Tank, Green Energy Crystals

This shrine is between the Fury Green and Ice Belt entrances. Drive along the western wall and you’ll find it pretty easily, so slide the stone down to activate the lift.

Once you descend, you’ll see that the Entrance room is covered in webs. Burn off the web covering the door with a Fire Shot (and hey, feel free to get the rest if you’d like), lower the stone to activate the door, and then head on through to the Ladder of Thought.

This room is also coated in webs, and filled with the culprits: Web Crawlers. This is the only place they appear, so be sure to scan them to your logbook before clearing them away. Our first order of business is collecting the Green Energy Crystals stored here. There are three sets of containers: one on the left, one on the right, and another behind two massive webs at the back of the room. Once you’ve broken them with a missile or charge shot, it’s time to ascend the shrine.

Clean the web off the right pillar, then switch to the Psychic Visor. You’re able to move the pillars up and down; raise one pillar to a height you can Space Jump onto, and the second pillar to about twice that height. Jump onto the first pillar, then the second, and then you should have enough height to hop onto the platform. (if you’ve set it incorrectly, you can adjust the pillar you’re not currently standing on)

Before you head through the door, there’s an Energy Tank you’ll want to grab. Look to the right of the door and you’ll see a Morph Ball tunnel behind some more webs. You’ll need to perform a bomb jump to get inside. The easiest way is to jump using Spring Ball, place a bomb at the apex of your jump, and then jump again to get the extra height you need. You can also use three carefully timed bombs if you’re feeling old-school. Either way, roll through the tunnel and claim Energy Tank #5!

If you want to clean up all the webs in the Gift of Fire, go ahead, but all you’ll find are jars. Walk up to the statue to claim the Charged Fire Shot! After a short charge, you can use 3 Shot Ammo to fire three rounds at once, which also pierce enemies. It’s particularly useful in narrow hallways or if you need a beefy enemy to be on fire for a while. Once you’re done admiring your new upgrade, interact with the orb to teleport back to the shrine entrance.

Rings of Stone Shrine

Requirements to Complete: Ice Shot

Rewards: Super Fire Shot, Shot Expansion, Green Energy Crystals

This shrine is in the central northern part of the Valley. Drive directly north from the Chrono Tower Save Station until you find it, then shoot the Ice Blocker off and head inside.

There’s nothing of note inside the Entrance – just some pots you can break if you need energy or ammo. Activate the door and enter the Rings of Stone room. The Green Energy Crystals are in plain sight, so break the containers and grab them first. After that, scan the large stone circles in the center of the room, and they’ll begin to float and spin in the air around a Control Beam target. Weave a Control Beam through the gyroscope to hit the target and activate another lift down. Smash the two Green Energy Crystal containers on your way to the Gift of Flame.

Before claiming your prize, walk up the stairs and turn back around. You’ll see a small crevice in the ceiling, and a trail of psychic energy coming out of it. Fire another Control Beam and hit the target inside to reveal a Morph Ball tunnel behind the statue. Roll on through to collect Shot Expansion, then head back to obtain the Super Fire Shot! For 15 Shot Ammo, you can unleash a barrage of piercing fire shots that’ll set any enemies ablaze for a long time. Give it a whirl before you use the teleporter back to the shrine entrance.

If, for some reason, you complete this shrine before the Ladders of Thought Shrine, the upgrade will be the Charged Fire Shot instead, and you can find the Super Fire Shot there.

Source of Spring Shrine

Requirements to Complete: Ice Shot

Rewards: Charged Ice Shot, Missile Expansion, Green Energy Crystals

This shrine is directly north of the Flare Pool entrance. Drive alongside the eastern wall to find it and head on down. There are some jars in the Entrance if you need some energy or ammo refills, but otherwise just go straight to the Source of Spring.

Before tackling the shrine, look to the bottom of the room to find several Green Energy Crystal containers. You’ll also see a Missile Expansion behind a grate, and thankfully, you can get both at the same time. The container below the left drain covers a Morph Ball tunnel, so just roll through after you break it to reach the Expansion. Make sure you grab the containers behind the Expansion, as well as the single crystal formation on the top platform. (Incidentally, you can collect all of these early without the Ice Shot)

There are three water drains in this room, with one above the large stone pillar blocking the way forward. The idea here is to force the pillar down with a heavy flow of water. The drains all connect to the same channel, so blocking one will increase the flow to the others. Freeze the left and right drains to direct all water flow to the central drain, which will push the pillar down into a locked position on the floor, granting passage to the Gift of Ice.

There’s nothing else left in this shrine, so go ahead and claim the Charged Ice Shot! After a short charge, you’ll launch four balls of ice, which will also bounce around the room once or twice. It’s great to quickly freeze large enemies or a crowd of smaller ones. Since it fires four powered rounds for only 3 shot ammo, it’s pretty good value as well. Once you’re sure you’ve got everything in this shrine, take the teleporter back to the shrine entrance.

Floating Path Shrine

Requirements to Complete: Thunder Shot

Rewards: Super Ice Shot, Shot Expansion, Green Energy Crystals

This shrine is directly south of the Chrono Tower Save Station. Fry the Thunder Blocker and descend into the Entrance. Take some replenishment’s if needed, but otherwise head on to the Floating Path.

You’ll see five Mote Sockets along the walls, but you’ve only got two Motes to work with. Before dealing with that, drop down to the bottom and make your way to the Green Energy Crystals across the room, taking care to avoid or kill the Neo Rootspurs on the way. (you can technically scan these, but the logbook entry is the same as a normal Rootspur) There’s another Mote Socket on the back of the central pillar, so summon one of the Motes from across the room and slot it in to reveal a Shot Expansion. Before you leave, remove the Mote and chuck it into another socket. Collect the crystals on the other side of the room, then head back upstairs via the Ancient Hall.

There are a couple ways to cross this gap. The slowest way is to place a Mote in the nearest Socket to reveal a stone platform, the second Mote in the socket across the wall, and then jump from platform to platform, using the Mote from the last platform to extend the next one until you reach the other side. Another method is to place the Motes on the first and second Sockets on the right wall, and then perform a careful Space Jump to grab the first Mote and place it into the third Socket. However, the quickest option is to place Motes in the first Socket on the right, and the last Socket on the left. With good timing, you can simply Space Jump from the first platform to the second platform, and then onto the other side.

Whichever approach you use, break the last crystal container on the left, and then take any Mote and throw it into the Socket blocking the door to the Gift of Frost. If you’re satisfied you’ve collected everything, then all that’s left is to claim the Super Ice Shot! This longer charge only needs a thrifty 10 shot ammo to send a flurry of ice rounds across a wide area, bouncing around the environment if it doesn’t immediately hit an enemy. It’ll freeze all but the largest of foes, and there’s almost no way to miss an opponent. Its low cost makes it an effective tool to keep enemies still over a long time. Take a few moments to see how the projectiles ricochet, then use the teleporter to return to the shrine entrance.

If, for some reason, you complete this shrine before the Source of Spring Shrine, the upgrade will be the Charged Ice Shot instead, and you can find the Super Ice Shot there.

Ring of Thunder Shrine

Requirements to Complete: Thunder Shot

Rewards: Charged Thunder Shot, Energy Tank, Green Energy Crystals

NOTE: Even if you don’t have the requirements below, stop by this shrine as soon as you first enter Sol Valley. On the back of the statue outside, there is an Energy Tank hidden behind a moveable wall; focus on the stone and slide it down to reveal an opening. Do so and you’ll grab Energy Tank #4!

This shrine is in the central southern area of the Valley, northwest of Flare Pool. If you hadn’t already picked up the Energy Tank noted above, make sure to grab it before entering the shrine.

Unless you need some refills, walk through the Entrance into the Ring of Thunder room. You’ll see a bunch of Green Energy Crystals on the outer circle, so go ahead and smash them. Once that’s done, go to the center of the room, and find the two pillars with psychic points. Lift both of them up, and then shoot any pillar with a single Thunder Shot. The elevator will activate and allow you to reach the Gift of Thunder.

There’s nothing else to do, so go ahead and acquire the Charged Thunder Shot! It’ll use up 5 shot ammo to send a bolt of lightning to your opponent, shocking them and anyone else around them for a good while. It’s not the most efficient, but it’ll quickly stun a lot of enemies for a few moments. Unless you missed a crystal in the Ring of Thunder, use the teleporter back to the shrine entrance.

Falling Labyrinth Shrine

Requirements to Complete: Thunder Shot, Psychic Spider Ball

Rewards: Super Thunder Shot, Shot Expansion, Green Energy Crystals

This shrine is roughly northeast of Chrono Tower. After zapping the Thunder Blocker and entering the shrine, you’ll see that the Entrance has two doors inside. Head through the central door to the Falling Labyrinth.

As you enter the room, you’ll see some Sand Crawlers scurrying along the walls. This is the only place they appear, so be sure to scan them to your logbook. Use the Spinner to unlock the Mote in the sculpture, and then look above you to see the gate to send it to. The gate will open and Psychic Ball Tracks will materialize around the room.

Before we climb, we’ve got some items to grab! Collect the Green Energy Crystals behind the sculpture, and then drop down to find even more containers around the bottom of the room. While you’re smashing these, you’ll find a small opening in the central pillar: roll through with Morph Ball to collect a Shot Expansion. There’s one lone container across from the lower door, so make sure you grab that, too! If you need to get back up to the Entrance or the top level of the Labyrinth, you can do so via the Timeworn Passage.

The tracks aren’t all connected, and you can only bomb jump between the first two or three rings. The easiest way up is to use the track to the left of the Labyrinth entrance: roll straight up, use a bomb to get to the track above, and then take mostly right and upwards paths (with one left turn at the “7th” ring of tracks) to reach the top. You can also take a slightly longer route without bomb jumping using the track starting to the right of that one. Either way, use the Psychic Spider Ball to climb up to the top, and head straight through to the Gift of Lightning.

As long as you’ve obtained everything else here, go ahead and grab one of the best weapons in the game: the Super Thunder Shot! This beauty will fire a continuous arc of electricity, shocking your target and anything else around for 4 seconds while delivering a ton of damage. While it costs 20 shot ammo and takes a second to charge, a crowd of enemies will usually drop enough ammo to quickly replenish it. It’s effective in almost every circumstance, making it a go-to weapon for obliterating anything in your way. Take a few moments to witness its staggering power, then use the teleporter back to the shrine entrance.

If, for some reason, you complete this shrine before the Ring of Thunder Shrine, the upgrade will be the Charged Thunder Shot instead, and you can find the Super Thunder Shot there.
