Nintendo Releases Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Overview Trailer — Lots of New Details Inside!
Earlier this morning, Nintendo released a brand-new overview trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Over the course of its near-eight-minute runtime, lots of new footage and music is shown off from the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game, alongside some voiceover providing additional context.
First off, we finally get some names for the locations we’ll be exploring in the game. The Galactic Federation structure where the opening takes place is called the UTO Research Facility (it’s unknown at this time what UTO refers to). The jungle area where Samus first arrives in Viewros is called Overgrown Jungle: Fury Green, which is interesting as this is also the name of the .mp3 music file temporarily featured on the game’s Japanese product website after the second trailer released, implying that that track is indeed the jungle’s theme.
Other areas named include Thunderous Factory: Volt Forge, the area with heavy storms that seems to be in the middle of a hurricane, Frozen Laboratory: Ice Belt, which as implied by the name represents this game’s ice area, Molten Facility: Flare Pool, the volcanic area briefly shown in snippets during the last two trailers, and finally Central Desert Area: Sol Valley, the open desert that connects the rest of the main areas together.

Next, more details on Samus’ psychic abilities are shown off, starting with Samus’ Control Beam, which allows her to freeze time and control a shot’s trajectory with her mind. The Psychic Glove meanwhile allows Samus to manipulate the energy of Viewros to access its technology. And while not named, the Psychic Grapple Lasso, as we’re calling it for now, shows a new ability that allows Samus to stick to grapple points on the wall, similar to Super Metroid and Metroid Dread; unlike previous iterations of Metroid Prime’s Grapple Beam, the camera also briefly switches to third-person view as Samus snaps to the fixture.
In a scene shortly after, Samus uses one of her Psychic Abilities to make an ethereal-looking structure appear within the world. She then uses the Boost Ball ability from her Morph Ball to shoot into the device which activates a speedy Morph Ball track that materializes in real time.
Next up in the overview, we get a brief look at some new Vi-O-La gameplay in Sol Valley. We finally see Samus using her newfound bike to smash crystals to convert into an unknown energy source, something we’ve been speculating about since the third trailer released in September.
The following section focuses on the Galactic Federation soldiers who are also stranded on Viewros. We see Samus fighting alongside some of the new soldiers, including MacKenzie, who uses a pistol, Tokabi, who uses what appears to be a sniper rifle, and an android named VUE-995, who can smash walls down. Fighting alongside the soldiers seems to be the key to unlocking some of the game’s new abilities, as a scene during the trailer shows MacKenzie handing Samus a chip that powers up her arm cannon with a red aura. Is this the mysterious flame ability we’ve speculated on?

From this point forward, it’s a string of highlights including what appears to be a new sand fish-like enemy in the desert, a new dragon boss called Phenoros, more footage of Xelios from the 16-second spots we reported on last month, Sylux emerging from a container gripping his forehead (Is this a foreshadowing of his own potential psychic abilities?), a more powerful “alpha” variant of the creatures Samus fights in Fury Green and the Ice Belt, and a look at what appears to be a Grapple Beam while in Morph Ball form.
The trailer closes out with some additional info on the new Metroid Prime 4: Beyond amiibo. The Samus figure grants a temporary bonus health shield once per day, the Samus & Vi-O-La figure unlocks alternate skins for Vi-O-La, and the Sylux figure grants “easier access to an in-game cinematic.” All three figures also include “and more” in their description, implying that these aren’t the only uses for them.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond releases for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems December 4th, 2025. Pre-orders are open on the Nintendo eShop and at most major retailers.
