Update: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Amiibo Functionality Fully Detailed on Nintendo’s Japanese Site

Update: Nintendo recently updated its Japanese website to fully detail amiibo functionality for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, helping to define the ambiguous “and more” wording discussed below.

Here is what each amiibo figure will do in Metroid Prime 4, according to the website (which has been translated via Google):

Samus (Metroid Prime 4):

  • You can now change the background music when riding Vi-O-La in Sol Valley.
  • Once per day, you can activate a shield that will block up to 99 damage.
  • When the shield is activated, Samus’s life is also restored to full.

Samus & Vi-O-La:

  • You will be able to change the color of Vi-O-La.
  • Every time you touch your amiibo, you can check Vi-O-La’s total distance traveled.
  • Once per day, you can increase the rate at which Vi-O-La’s Boost Energy regenerates.

Sylux:

  • After clearing the game, you’ll be able to see the full versions of the movies that are shown in fragments throughout the game.
    • Even if you don’t have amiibo, you can watch the full version of the movie by achieving a 100% scan rate and item collection rate.
  • Every time you touch your amiibo, you’ll hear a random line from Sylux.

Additionally, if you scan any Metroid amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series line, you’ll hear game sounds played randomly.

Original: Nintendo just released a hefty Metroid Prime 4: Beyond overview trailer, giving fans a clearer picture of the sci-fi adventure set to unfold when the game releases on December 4th. In addition to new details about Beyond’s setting, gameplay mechanics, and cast of characters, the trailer in its final moments offers a bit more information about the previously announced set of Metroid Prime 4 amiibo figures.

Thanks to a splash page at the end of the latest trailer, we now know what in-game goodies the three Metroid Prime 4: Beyond amiibo will unlock. The Samus (Metroid Prime 4) figure will grant a “temporary bonus Health Shield once per day, and more,” the Samus & Vi-O-La figure will unlock “alternate skins for Vi-O-La, and more,” and the Sylux figure will allow “easier access to an in-game cinematic, and more.”

The Samus (Metroid Prime 4) figure and Samus & Vi-O-La figure are both available right now. The Sylux figure is set for release on December 4th, the same day Metroid Prime 4: Beyond hits store shelves.
