Check Out These New Metroid Prime 4 Ads, Containing All New Footage!

Just recently, two new YouTube shorts appeared on the official Nintendo of America’s YouTube page. They may have been delisted since their discovery, but nevertheless they contain juicy new footage! Almost every instant of these ads, despite how short they are, are comprised of completely new footage so spoilers beware. Both of these ads are titled “Nintendo Switch 2 – Power Up Your Holidays” so we will refer to them as Ad 1 and Ad 2 based on their title in the sources to avoid confusion.

The first few seconds of Ad 1 start with Samus going into first person, this is footage from the 2024 reveal trailer. Every scrap of footage from here on is completely new as Samus is then charged by one of the alien creatures in the forest on Viewros. Before Samus is attacked, the footage switches to a brand new boss! This is a mechanical entity of some sort called Xelios that shoots green electricity, glows with green energy over its multiple black, hexagonal shaped segments that make up its outer shell. The interior is comprised of some sort of purple colored core which is most likely the weak spot. It should be noted that Xelios when glowing green all over looks eerily similar to the Blast Ball logo of Federation Force. During this boss Samus has 3 Energy Tanks and 25 Missiles so this can’t be too far into the game. Also note that Samus’ Missiles on her HUD are colored yellow, which we believe is a visual cue indicating low ammo as the remaining count shown is 6/25. The Missiles also have the new icon from the most recent trailer, seemingly confirming it isn’t a new upgrade.

Ad 2 is comprised entirely of new footage of the previously revealed boss, Carvex, and this boss looks really cool! At first Samus shoots at Carvex, but it’s main plant body gets completely surrounded by vines in order to block Samus’ attacks. The footage then switches to Carvex having shot out a projectile that Samus shoots and destroys right as Carvex brings out a massive tentacle that Samus needs to dodge. The last segment looks the most impressive with Carvex having spread vines all over in front of Samus to most likely restrict her movement or where she can aim. Samus is shooting at the tentacle which has an exposed weak point while also moving out of the way of a projectile. Carvex’s health is low in the last scene, which gives the impression that as the fight continues it will grow and expand to constrict Samus’s movement in the arena.

Another aspect of note is the music, Ad 1 contains a much clearer version of the song that played at the end of the second, “psychic abilities overview” trailer. This song also contains aspects of instrumentation and other sound effects from the Prime Trilogy, most notably the “Scary Noise” synth patch most recognizable from the Flaaghra fight as pointed out by our own Doominal Crossing earlier this year. Ad 2 has a completely original song that could potentially be Carvex’s boss theme. The Scary Noise patch can faintly be heard here as well, which is fitting since these are both plant bosses.

So, these two ads were really something huh? An unexpected release that was short but sweet with it’s new footage. What did you think? Does this get you even more exited for Metroid Prime 4? Let us know in the comments below!
