Update: New Metroid Prime 4 Info and Character Models Released From Nintendo Dream Magazine; Updated With Translation from Shinesparkers

Update: Shinesparkers has a released a more accurate translation of the Nintendo Dream article that can be found here. This translation was done by Darts over on Twitter and you can find their account here.

Original: It’s been a little over a month since the last Nintendo Direct where we saw new footage of Metroid Prime 4 Beyond featuring Samus’ new high tech bike, Vi-O-La. For the last month no new info had been released until now, and from an unexpected source. An official Nintendo magazine called Nintendo Dream had two new pages dedicated to sharing previously announced as well as new, interesting pieces of information. All sorts of new aspects regarding Metroid Prime 4 lie beyond this point so potential spoilers abound. Keep in mind that the source is a translation of a Japanese article using programs such as Google Translate so what you will see might not be 100% verbatim as to what is listed on the original Nintendo Dream magazine.

The article starts talking about Vi-O-La, that it can explore a variety of biomes such as forests and deserts as well as some of the abilities it has. These include a dash that was seen in the previous trailer, but also a barrier to protect against attacks. This most likely is not all Vi-O-La can do, but it seems that there’s plenty of aspects of Vi-O-La that we don’t know about. Next there’s a section about Samus’ new psychic powers and that it can not only interact with structures and control machinery, but also manipulate gravitational fields. It seems like Samus’ psychic powers will go beyond just moving objects with her mind. There’s also a brief section of the creatures Samus will encounter from camouflaged predators in the forest and the desert containing subterranean colossuses. This should indicate that there will most likely be boss battles with Vi-O-La in the wide open areas.

The penultimate sections involves three important characters in the game which as Sylux, a Lamorn scientist that currently remains unnamed, and Ais Raxus who is a large creature with an organic body with metallic components that can be an ally or enemy depending on the players actions. The latter seems the most interesting for gameplay since there are rarely NPCs in Metroid games, let alone a character whose alignment is dependent on the players actions. The next portion elaborates a bit further on Sylux, stating that he possesses the same psychic powers as Samus but uses them aggressively and is said to have emerged from failed Federation experiments to replicate Samus’ abilities. This would explain his armor, weapons, why his Lockjaw alt mode is so similar to the Morph Ball and why he hates Samus and the Federation so much.

The final section goes into the amiibo and what they do. Seemingly they have to deal with Metroid Prime 4’s gallery mode as well as future updates to the Metroid Prime series, but whatever that could mean remains a mystery. There could also be more that these Amiibo do but exact details remain elusive. What do you think of this new info? Did any of this align with your expectations and predictions? What surprised you the most? What are you most exited about? Make sure to let use know in the comments below!
