Metroid Musing: Do You Think We’ve Seen the Last of the Mawkin Tribe?
When Mercury Steam took over development of the 2D Metroid series, they set out to do something that had previously been unthinkable: make the seemingly benevolent Chozo race into something darker and more sinister.
First teased at the end of Samus Returns and revealed in full in Metroid Dread, Raven Beak was presented as the greatest threat Samus had ever encountered – cunning, physical, deadly, and possessing a close tie to Samus Aran, Raven Beak was presented as the ultimate enemy. It was somewhat surprising to me then that he was killed off at the end of Metroid Dread, seemingly ending the line of Chozo Mawkin Warriors.
During the events of Metroid Dread, we’re told that the Mawkin tribe (Raven Beak withstanding) was wiped out entirely on their home planet of ZDR by the X parasites, but I wonder if we’ve really seen the last of them?
We know the Chozo are a space faring species, having established colonies on multiple planets throughout Galactic Federation space and beyond. I don’t think it’s out of the question to see more members of the Mawkin tribe in the future, maybe looking to finish what Raven Beak started.
What do you think? Will we ever see the Mawkin again? Or should they stay dead with the planet ZDR? Let us know in the comments below!
