Super Metroid’s Iconic Soundtrack Added to the Nintendo Music App

After a long wait, the songs of Super Metroid are now available on Nintendo Music! Alongside previous Metroid titles on the app, there’s definitely enough to make a playlist of your favorite songs in the franchise.

The release contains a total of 28 tracks that includes overworld music, boss battle themes, and iconic short jingles for events such as obtaining items. Most titles include the locations where each song appears and what bosses use a particular theme. In addition to the full soundtrack, three curated playlists have been included: “Planet Zebes” (a collection of all overworld BGM), “Battles” (each boss theme), and the “Extended-Playback Collection”, a total of 21 tracks that can use the app’s extended playback feature. That means you could listen to “Brinstar: Heavy Foliage Area” for a whole hour. (and you should, it’s still a bop)

Metroid’s presence on Nintendo Music is still somewhat lacking, as Super Metroid is only the fourth game on the music player and only the second added since launch. The original Metroid and Metroid Prime collections were available on release, and Metroid II was added a year later. And while some Metroid Prime 4: Beyond tracks were released alongside the game, it’s definitely not complete.

Still, these tracks are undeniable classics and have defined the core sound of the Metroid series for decades. From the melodies of Maridia and Deep Norfair heard in later games, to the instantly recognizable themes of Samus Aran and Ridley, Super Metroid was the starting ground for the franchise’s beautiful scores. And, if nothing else, it’s nice that you can now go for a run while listening to the Escape theme for 30 minutes straight!

Nintendo Music is available to download for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play, although it requires an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription to use.
