New Metroid II and Zero Mission Switch Online Profile Icons Available Now

Classic 2D Metroid fans rejoice: Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) members can now redeem ten new Metroid II: Return of Samus and Metroid: Zero Mission profile icons, sourced from official promotional art. To obtain the icons, you must complete related missions in the NSO app on your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2, and then redeem them in the app with Platinum Points before January 5th, 2026.

The missions require you to play Return of Samus via the Game Boy Online app, and Zero Mission via the Game Boy Advance Online app. As the Game Boy Advance Online app requires the NSO Expansion Pass to play, you will need the Expansion Pass to play Zero Mission and get the Zero Mission icons. However, any NSO member can play Return of Samus to get the Metroid II icons. You’ll need to play the corresponding games for a short unspecified time, though our own Andy Spiteri reports that he only had to play each game for a few seconds to complete the missions.

Once you have completed the missions, the following icons are available to redeem within the NSO app:

From Metroid II: Return of Samus:

• Samus preparing to shoot
• Samus crouching, the cover art from the original game
• The Queen Metroid
• Samus’ Gunship
• The Screw Attack logo

From Metroid: Zero Mission:

• Samus shooting
• Zero Suit Samus in a vent
• The phantom form of the Chozodia Ruins Test
• Mecha-Ridley
• Mother Brain

All icons can be purchased for ten Platinum Points, and all are available until January 5th, 2026.
