MetroidHQ Charity Marathon Kicks Off On Jan 14; Omega Metroid’s Andy Spiteri Running Metroid!

This year’s MetroidHQ charity marathon – titled MHQthon: Beyond – is upon us! The annual speedrunning event will run from Wednesday, January 14, to Sunday, January 18th, featuring a wide cast of guests, including Omega Metroid’s own Andy Spiteri!

If you’re unfamiliar, MHQThon is a yearly charity event benefitting Child’s Play Charity, an organization that provides toys, games, and new technologies to children’s hospitals around the world. The Marathon’s participants perform speedruns, compete in races, and attempt challenges in a variety of Metroid games. And, as the event’s name suggests, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is included in the schedule this year!

The event begins this Wednesday at 12 PM PST with a short Introduction before Elias Thompson, the founder of MetroidHQ, launches the event proper with a Metroid Prime Remastered – Normal Any% playthrough. Later that same day, an Archipelago Multiworld Race will begin, in which players dash through a randomized Metroid game and send upgrades to a teammate playing a different game!

Other segments throughout the week include races in Metroid II Remake and Metroid Fusion randomizers, 100% speedruns of Super Metroid and Metroid Zero Mission, and Any% playthroughs of every Metroid Prime game (including Prime: Hunters and Prime 4: Beyond), Metroid: Other M, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid Dread.

Additionally, the Metroid I Any% will be ran by Andy Spiteri, the Webmaster of Omega Metroid! Andy’s playthrough will start at 9 AM PST on Sunday, the final day of the marathon. Sunday evening will also include a giveaway and a “Baking Beyond” show before the event’s Closing Remarks at 11:30 PM PST.
