Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Reaches Top 10 Best Selling U.S. Games According to Market Research Company Circana
As we approach the two-month post-release date, we have our first insights into how Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been selling. Good news is that it has had an incredibly successful commercial launch, as physical sales alone have propelled it to become the 7th Best Selling Game in the U.S. last month!
This was revealed in a recent industry sales report from Circana, an American market research company. The report included the U.S. Top 20 Best Selling Games for December 2025, ranked on dollar sales. Prime 4 reached 7th place in the list, ahead of Minecraft and behind Pokémon Legends: Z-A. It was also the only game released in December to reach the Top 20 chart.

Beyond’s debut sales are even more impressive when you consider that Nintendo doesn’t share digital sales of their own games. In other words: Beyond secured 7th place – and outsold all sales of multi-platform games like EA Sports College Football 26 and Sonic Racing: Crossworlds – with just physical sales.
Prime 4 also broke into the U.S. Top 10 Best Selling Games on Nintendo Platforms for December 2025, ranking 2nd above Donkey Kong Bananza and below Pokémon Legends: Z-A. This means Beyond outsold popular family picks like Kirby Air Riders, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe during the holiday season. (in physical sales)
Additionally, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was also one of the best selling physical games on Switch/Switch 2 in all of 2025. Beyond charted 7th in the U.S. Top 10 Best Selling Games on Nintendo Platforms for 2025, above Minecraft and Kirby Air Riders. That’s quite a feat for a December release!
As mentioned above, Circana’s reports exclude digital sales of Nintendo-published games, so this isn’t a complete picture of all games sales. The report also doesn’t include add-on sales (like DLC or in-game currency) or hardware bundles (i.e. a Switch 2 with Mario Kart World included). It’s also worth noting that these lists rank on dollars, not units, sold. Therefore, it’s possible that Minecraft ($30) sold more individual copies than Beyond ($60-70) did in 2025.
However, it’s not unreasonable to believe that Beyond may have performed even better on these sales rankings if eShop sales were included. Mat Piscatella, a Senior Director and Video Game Industry Advisor at Circana, said this about Prime 4’s placement:
And this is physical only, and Metroid would lean more digital heavy than many other Nintendo games because of the audience. Not bad for a Metroid game. Have to see how strong the legs are, however.

In any case, the report certainly indicates a strong launch for Beyond, as it’s able to perform on par with Pokémon and other well-known top sellers. Now, as Piscatella said, we’ll have to see if Beyond can bring this pace into the new year.
Circana’s report, shared online by Piscatella, also includes sales information about other platforms, hardware and accessories, and the overall U.S. video games industry for the whole of 2025. You can read more about it in Piscatella’s thread here.
