Metroid Musing: What Could Missile Combos in Metroid Prime 4 Have Looked Like?

In Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Beam Missile Combos were powerful additions to Samus’ arsenal. Should Samus collect the correct Missile Combo, charging the correct beam and pressing the Missile button unleashed devastating weapons with various effects. For example, in Metroid Prime 1, if you thoroughly explore the Chozo Ruins Samus can acquire the Wavebuster, the Missile combo for the electric element Wave Beam. This weapon costs 10 Missiles to activate and a constant stream of electricity in the form of an energy beam will be fired, automatically locking on to enemies and dealing high amounts of damage while stunning them at the same time. This Missile Combo costs 5 Missiles per second to maintain fire but the damage increases over time. Missile Combos were not present in Metroid Prime 3 or 4 since Prime 3 had stacking beams and Hyper Mode while Prime 4 required Samus select her Missile Launcher or 1 of 3 different elemental shot types.

Considering that Metroid Prime 4 doesn’t have Missile Combos, if they did exist what could they have been like? Granted, the fact that each shot type has a Charge Shot and Super Charge Shot makes it seem like they are the Missile Combo equivalent for Prime 4, but a hypothetical Missile Combos could combine Missiles with these elemental shot types to create even more powerful weapons at the cost of both ammo types. Lets not forget that the Psychic Power Beam could also get a Missile combo, even if the Super Missile was the Power Beam Missile Combo in Metroid Prime 1 and 2. One example could be that the Fire Shot Missile Combo adds massive AOE explosions to each projectile, or the Ice Shot Missile Combo could turn each ricocheting shot into sticky bombs with increased damage. Those are just a few of my ideas but what do you think? How could Missile Combos in Metroid Prime 4 have worked, and what cool new weapons can you think of? Let us know in the comments!
