Metroid Musing: What Could Brie Larson’s Casting in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Mean for a Potential Metroid Film?
Two weeks ago, Nintendo aired the Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct, showing the first trailer for the upcoming film and revealing new noteworthy cast members such as Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. and Brie Larson as Rosalina — a standout addition for plenty of Metroid fans. Brie Larson is no stranger to Nintendo, being a massive fan of the company in general as far back as 2005 and a fan of Metroid specifically. In fact, Larson starred in an ad for Metroid Dread and has dressed up as Zero Suit Samus for Halloween — she has even asked Nintendo to cast her as Samus in a Metroid movie. Plenty of fans have considered Brie Larson the best fit to play Samus in a live-action Metroid movie, just ask Omega Metroid’s Andy Spiteri for his thoughts on the matter.
However, now that Larson has been cast as Rosalina in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, could the news influence or interfere in her potential casting as Samus in a Metroid movie? It’s not unheard of for an actor to play multiple roles for a particular production company, especially if they have developed a working relationship through multiple productions. Of course, the debate on whether or not a Metroid movie should be live-action or animated is its own topic, but being cast in the Mario Galaxy movie could absolutely help Larson’s chances in securing future roles in Nintendo projects. This possibility could certainly all depend on how The Super Mario Galaxy Movie turns out, as well as how Brie Larson as Rosalina is received.
What do you all think? Does being cast as Rosalina lock Brie Larson out of future roles for Nintendo or does it only help her chances? Let us know in the comments below!
