ICYMI: Metroid Prime 4 Just Got a New Trailer Titled “Survive”
One month away from the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Nintendo gave fans a new trailer through one of their their famous random Twitter drops. This new 1:12 long trailer features a handful of shots that have been previously released, but is mostly comprised of brand new footage! The overall energy of this trailer is sure different from previous trailers and is a welcome addition. The footage is all scenes that are about 2 to 3 seconds long, but is nonetheless intriguing.
Omega Analysis: The trailer starts with the opening of the game that was first seen in the Nintendo Treehouse, Samus flying toward Planet Tanamaar in her ship and shooting down some Space Pirates. This is noteworthy since this opening sequence hasn’t been shown in a trailer up to this point. Up until the 14 second mark every clip is from previous trailers, but when the scene shifts to this lighting/storm area, it changes to seeing Samus seemingly arrive in the area for the first time since she’s getting up from a crouching position. The perspective then shifts to Samus in the same position on screen but she now has the Vi-O-La Suit and is in this fire/lava area from the previous trailer.
This overall framing seems to be what will happen when Samus enters into a new area for the first time. From here the 2 second clips switch areas over and over. First it’s Samus in this ice area standing in front of a door as it opens, to Samus entering the massive desert area for the first time since she’s in Varia Suit still, has one Energy Tank and is shielding her eyes from the sunlight.
Samus is then seen in the ice area over this unstable metal bridge from the previous trailer and is shielding herself from the wind. Note that if you look in the bottom right of the screen you can see an Energy Tank, whereas in the last trailer this Energy Tank was obscured by Samus’ Arm Cannon. Samus is then in a forest area in the beginning and sees this insect crawl across the ground at a good pace leaving this green trail behind it. Some fans have pointed out that this insect looks eerily similar to alt mode of Kanden, a hunter from Metroid Prime Hunters (like Sylux).
Samus is then shown to rip something covering the door with her Grapple Beam before shifting to the forest area again where she seems to be uncovering these floating platforms with her psychic powers. These platforms seem to pop into existence when Samus looks at them and her hand is glowing with psychic power. The next few clips of interest are Samus being surrounded and attacked by these wolf creatures from the previous trailer and these robots that fly in through cracked glass to attack Samus. The next scene of note is when Samus scans one of these robots, called a Psy-bot soldier, that is a basic model of a Lamorn made “Psy-bot” battle android. This could have interesting implications since the name Psy-bot would imply psychic powers, so are they being controlled by someone remotely like Sylux? These are also Lamorn creations despite Samus’ psychic powers and Vi-O-La being Lamorn creations as well. Could this put some doubt on the Lamorn’s intentions? It’s still unclear as to what their goals are.
The next noteworthy clip is Samus is this frozen over facility fighting these feral aliens from the forest area. Samus shoots a Missile at one of them which promptly smacks the Missile away and destroys what looks like a trash can. This shot proves that Samus isn’t the only one that can intercept projectiles mid air. Also note that when the trash can is destroyed a piece of it straight up clips through the ground. The last notable clips involve Samus riding on Vi-O-La, one is over a bridge where the ceiling folds away to show sunlight as Samus nears the end of it, Samus riding through the desert and shooting down a few birds right next to her and performing the famous “Akira Slide” when seemingly exiting a facility in the fire/lava area. After that is showing the release date of December 4th and another look at the amiibo with the stop of the screen saying “The Journey to Launch Continues.”
Quite the trailer huh? A few scenes from previous trailers but so much new footage for fans to sink their teeth into. How was this trailer compared to the others? About on par? Worse in some way? I’d say it’s the best trailer to date. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
