Free Hollow Knight: Silksong Expansion Announced for 2026, Original Hollow Knight Is Getting Updated Too!

In a surprise blog post to conclude the launch year of Hollow Knight: Silksong, Team Cherry has officially announced TWO major projects that will be coming in 2026! The first of the major announcements is the first planned free expansion for Hollow Knight: Silksong, titled “Sea of Sorrow.” Team Cherry described the expansion in their blog post as containing new tools, bosses, and environments in a “nautical adventure.” The expansion is slated for release in 2026 on all platforms free of charge, and a brief reveal trailer is also available.

The second major announcement is that the original Hollow Knight would ALSO be receiving a free update, in the form of both a Switch 2 Edition and an update to “all versions of the original game for current platforms.” Described in the same blog post as including “all the updates and enhancements that Silksong received on [Switch 2],” this update will offer “high frame-rate modes, higher resolutions, and many additional graphical effects.”

The statement revealed that many of these features are available now on PC, via Steam and GOG, through those platforms’ public-beta update features. The Switch 2 Edition of Hollow Knight will be coming in 2026, and it will be free for all owners of the original Hollow Knight on Switch.

Team Cherry also announced new merchandise, in the form of a variety of mini-figurines, that will be coming soon as well. You can pre-order the entire collection from Fangamer right here.
