Unused Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Dialogue Recently Discovered by Speedrunner

Metroid speedrunner MrMiguel has discovered unused dialogue from the Aurora Unit in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. In a video posted Wednesday, MrMiguel showed off four calls that would have played during various parts of the game.

The first set of dialogue is part of the Aurora Unit’s warning about the corruption stemming from Samus’s use of Hypermode. The call was meant to be split into three parts; though the first two were used in-game, the last one when Samus arrives at Zipline Station Alpha in SkyTown was never used.

The call is as follows:

“Samus, we discovered that the Phazon inside you is linked to Dark Samus and is trying to take control of your body. We believe the only way to stop you from becoming corrupted us to destroy Dark Samus. If you cannot, you will become… her.”

The exact location for the next set of dialogue can’t be determined, but MrMiguel believes that it would have played when Samus picks up the first Energy Cell on the G.F.S. Valhalla. Upon picking up the Energy Cell, the Aurora Unit would have given a short explanation of its purpose:

“The item you just received is an energy cell unit. These cells are used to power Federation machinery. Since most of the ship is currently without power, maybe these cells could be of use.”

Similar to the second call, the third call doesn’t have an exact location. However, MrMiguel inferred from the dialogue that it would have played somewhere around when Samus gets the Hazard Shield since it directs the player to get past the acid rain to reach Skyway Access:

“According to the satellite data, the Seed shield generators are located underground and are impossible to reach. The only way to reach the Seed appears to be that cargo supply route. It is a direct line to the Seed core. You must find a way to get past the acid rain and into that route.”

The last unused call would’ve played when Samus lands on the Pirate Homeworld. It would have warned of a second Leviathan attack on Federation space:

“Samus, we have detected hundreds of wormholes opening simultaneously throughout Federation space. Sensors indicate a massive Leviathan attack. If these Leviathans impact more planets, Phazon will overrun the entire galaxy. All life will be extinguished.

“There is only one way to stop this attack. If Phaaze is controlling the Leviathans, it must be destroyed. Commandeer that Leviathan battleship as soon as possible and open a wormhole. Only then will we have the means to counter this assault!”

What do you think of this unused dialogue? Should the developers have kept some of these calls in the game, or are you glad they were left out? Let us know in the comments below or in our Discord server!
