Metroid Musing: Do You Want to See the Space Pirates Return in 2D Metroid?
The Space Pirates have long plagued Samus and the Galactic Federation. For years, the Pirates waged war against our favorite bounty hunter, creating bioweapons, destroying planets, and capturing Metroids.
As of right now, however, the Pirates find themselves in pretty dire straits. Defeated once and for all by Samus at the end of Super Metroid, the Pirates have been a minimal presence and threat since, only appearing in Metroid Fusion as X parasites and skipping Metroid Dread all together.
While on one hand, it’s satisfying to defeat an enemy and feel like the Metroid world has real results and just doesn’t respawn the same bad guys for you to fight over and over. On the other hand, it does make me miss those incredible fights against the Pirates and their generals. With the Mawkin Chozo tribe and the Galactic Federation itself seemingly stepping into the villain role, the Space Pirates aren’t necessarily needed, but I do still hold a soft spot for them.
My question to you is this: would you be okay with the Space Pirates staying defeated? Or would you be down with them rearing their ugly heads in the next 2D Metroid? Let us know in the comments below!
