ICYMI: Nintendo Announces Global Price Increase Coming for the Switch 2

Nintendo has finally joined its two main competitors in the console space and announced a price increase for their newest console, the Nintendo Switch 2. According to Nintendo.com, the MSRP for the United States will increase by $50 USD from $449.99 to $499.99. The justification quoted:  “This is in response to various changes in market conditions, which are expected to extend over the medium to long term.” For other regions, Nintendo stated an increase for the Latin American market would be announced at a later date, while the Japan market will be seeing their price increase on May 25th. Nintendo Switch Online will also see a price increase in the Japanese Market, while there was no mention of NSO increasing anywhere else yet.

Even though the Switch 2 continued its pace as the fastest-selling console in history, Nintendo itself forecasted a drop in sales following the release of their latest 2026 Financial Report. (You can check out Omega Metroid’s article on what the latest financial report means for Metroid right here). They did however promise a “robust software lineup” to hopefully ease the pain.

In anticipation of the price increase, Nintendo also announced a new $499.99 bundle package for the Switch 2 that lets you choose one of three full game digital downloads: Mario Kart World, Pokemon Pokopia, or Donkey Kong Bananza. Scoring one of these digital games at a $20-30 USD price drop is sure to entice a few more Switch 2 sales ahead of the console’s impending price increase.

How do you feel about Nintendo raising the price of the Switch 2? Does this make you feel better about getting one early, or are you now more motivated to pick one up before the September 1st date? Is this new bundle a good enough reason for you to finally jump in the Switch 2 ecosystem? Come chat with us about it in the Omega Metroid discord or let us know how you feel in the comments below.
