Super Metroid and Metroid: Zero Mission Will Be Raced at Summer Games Done Quick 2025!

It’s that time of year again, where the sun is beating down, the popsicles are fresh from the freezer… and the awesome team over at Summer Games Done Quick (or SGDQ, for short) has put together their annual warm-weathered event! For those who might not know, Summer Games Done Quick is an annual sister show to Awesome Games Done Quick, with a focus on, as it says in the name, beating all kinds of games “quick”!

While Metroid games are no stranger to the Games Done Quick family, this year’s SGDQ is actually going to have TWO full Metroid showcases! The first is going to be on Thursday, July 10th, at roughly 5:43 PM MT/8:43 PM EST. This race will specifically be about completing the game, with as few items as possible, using a route specifically tied to the Ice Beam. The runners will be Eddie and OatsandGoats, the latter of which is the current world record holder in the category.

The second Metroid race will return us back to the Planet Zebes (although notably less exploded) in Metroid: Zero Mission! This will also be a race, this time between runners monkeysmb and KuritasKRT. The race will be expected to start on Friday, July 11th, at roughly 10:52 AM MT/1:52 PM EST. In a cool contrast to the previous race, the objective here is actually inverted: to beat the game as fast as possible with 100% of the items.

This year, SGDQ will be donating all funds to Doctors Without Borders, an organization that is all about delivering medical equipment and funding to places that need them most, especially in times of hardship and conflict.

Come on down and join GDQ for an awesome week of running games, playing for charity, and remember: SAVE the animals!
