Here you’ll find the location for every Universal Ammo Expansion in Metroid Prime Hunters, as well as detailed explanations on how to get them and what powerups you’ll need to acquire them!
Universal Ammo Expansion #1
Location: Compression Chamber, Vesper Defense Outpost (First Visit)
Requirements: Battlehammer
After acquiring the Battlehammer, take the middle tunnel in Cortex CPU and blast away the green shields blocking access to the upper half of the Compression Chamber. Enter and scan the shield lock release terminals and then head back down to the lower half of the Compression Chamber. Roll through to grab UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #1!
Universal Ammo Expansion #2
Location: Ice Hive, Arcterra (First visit)
Requirements: Judicator
After acquiring the Judicator, you’ll see a purple shield on the wall across from the bridge leadinflg to the Stronghold Void entrance. Blast the shield away and claim UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #2!
Universal Ammo Expansion #3
Location: Ice Hive, Arcterra (First visit)
Requirements: Judicator
After grabbing the Judicator, head back to the Ice Hives maim room where you fought the Barb Wasps and all the energy routers are. Blast away the purple shield and grab UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #3!
Universal Ammo Expansion #4
Location: Celestial Gateway, Celestial Archives (Second Visit)
Requirements: Battlehammer, Morph Ball
After landing, Morph down and roll under the platform your Gunship is resting on. Use your Battlehammer to blast away the green shield and drop down to the lower part of the Gateway. You’ll see UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #4 sitting there for the taking.
Universal Ammo Expansion #5
Location: Data Shrine 02, Celestial Archives (Second Visit)
Requirements: Battlehammer
When you return to the Celestial Archives, use the Battlehammer to open the green blast doors leading to the inner center room in Data Shrine 02. Defeat a few Guardians and you can grab UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #5 from the middle platform.
Universal Ammo Expansion #6
Location: Transfer Lock, Celestial Archives (Second Visit)
Requirements: None
After acquiring the Volt Driver and warping up to the Transfer Lock room, there will be a Spawner producing Voldrums on the left side of the room. Destroy it, and you’ll see tucked in the corner behind it is UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #6.
Universal Ammo Expansion #7
Location: Docking Bay, Celestial Archives (Second Visit)
Requirements: None
After dealing with the Guardian in the room, jump up to the upper bridge where the floating platforms are Docking and get on the second one from the left. It will carry you over to a platform that is housing UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #7!
Universal Ammo Expansion #8
Location: Magma Drop, Alinos (Second visit)
Requirements: Judicator, Morph Ball, Bombs, lots of health
On your return visit to Alinos, head to the lower section of the High Ground with the four pathways. One of them with have a Judicator shield, so blast it away, Morph down and enter.
This next part I think is really fun, and to give you a better idea of what you’ll need to do, watch the video below. Essentially, you will be submerged in lava and constantly losing health as you drop down in Morph Ball form through a huge tunnel. There will be big energy refills along the way, which you’ll want to navigate towards as you drop. The first half will be you falling; once you hit the bottom, you’ll want to lay some bombs that cause you to go SKYROCKETING upwards!
You’ll need to lay a couple of bombs in midair to propel you further, but the timing shouldn’t be too hard to nail down; it’s kind of the same idea as a double bomb jump, but with more lenient timing. Blast your way up and you’ll come to a platform where UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #8 is sitting! Grab it and then lay one final bomb to exit the Magma Drop.
Universal Ammo Expansion #9
Location: Processor Core, Alinos (Second Visit)
Requirements: None
After walking into the Processor Core from, drop from the top catwalk down to the floor. Navigate your way until you see a launch pad that you can use to get back up top. The launch pad will have you landing right on top of a giant Processor, where UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #8 will be just beside to to the left.
Universal Ammo Expansion #10
Location: Sanctorus, Arcterra (Second visit)
Requirements: Imperialist, Morph Ball
From the Frost Labyrinth room, navigate your way to the northern part and exit through an opening. You’ll be right in front of an Imperialist beam door, so blast it open and walk into the Sanctorus room. Take the left pathway and you’ll run directly into UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #10.
Universal Ammo Expansion #11
Location: Drip Moat, Arcterra (Second Visit)
Requirements: None
After walking into the Drip Moat room, step on the platform and it will start moving forwards; HOWEVER, you’ll actually want to get off (I’ve found Morph Ball is the easiest way to do this) and roll off the platform, falling down. There will be a few platforms on the ground, so jump on and and scale upwards until you see a launch pad. Jump on, and you’ll be able to soar right into UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #11, which will be floating in midair.

Location: Stasis Bunker, Vesper Defense Outpost (Second Visit)
Requirements: None
After arriving in the Stasis Bunker, proceed forward to the higher portion of the room until you see a small door with two Artifact markers on either side. Go through it and you’ll be directly in front of where the Shield Key spawns, looking at the machine spewing out icy gas. Jump on the ledges on the side of the room and you’ll find UNIVERSAL AMMO EXPANSION #12 sitting on a small platform on the backside of the machine.
