Metroid Dread Becomes the Best Selling Metroid Title of All Time, Sells 2.9 Million Units
On May 10th, Nintendo held their latest financial briefing detailing the company’s profits, losses and investments on a wide variety of fronts. There were several notable points brought up in the documentation, such as the Nintendo Switch reaching 107.65 million sales, Pokémon Legends: Arceus reaching 12.64 million sales and Kirby and the Forgotten Land reaching 2.1 million sales in 2 weeks just to name a few examples.
The biggest revelation though to Metroid fans across the world was the historic benchmark of Metroid Dread, reaching 2.9 million sales. This officially makes Metroid Dread the best selling title in the franchise’s 35 year history. The previous entry to hold this record was Metroid Prime on the Nintendo GameCube, which sold 2.84 million units in its lifetime. Nearly 20 years later and a new champion has finally left the ring!
Metroid Dread recently won “Best Action/Adventure Game” and was nominated for “Game of the Year” at the 2021 Game Awards. It currently sits at a critic score of 88 on Metacritic.
