Metroid Walkthrough – Passwords

In somewhat of a necessity for the series at the time, Metroid utilized passwords in order to not only save your game, but also to unlock various cheats and advantages throughout the game. Below you’ll find a list of the various passcodes, what they do, and if they’re worth your time.

Perhaps the most famous Metroid passcode, entering this will have players start the game with every missile, suit upgrade, and energy tank (albeit, those tanks will be empty). More importantly, Samus will not be in her Power Suit, but rather a leotard (fans commonly refer to this suit as “Justin Bailey Samus”). Additionally, all bosses will be defeated and the pathway to Tourian will be open, allowing players to finish the game quickly.

There is a variant of this password, , that starts you in Kraids Lair with every upgrade, but no bosses defeated, and a fewer amount of missiles:

There is also a variant that will start players as Justin Bailey Samus with no upgrades:

This is essentially an invincibility code, starting Samus with every upgrade, limitless missiles, full health, and inability to take damage.

Difficulty Enhancing Passwords

 

The following passwords will enhance the difficulty of the game. The first password will have players start their game in Kraids Lair with a modest amount of missiles and about half the Power Suit upgrades missing, including the Morph Ball:

There are more passwords associated with the game, and different variants of the above listed passwords. Different passwords that have a negative effect on the games ability to play without crashing have also been discovered, including the infamous Engage Ridley password.
