Kiwi Talkz Interviews Jack Mathews For Metroid Prime 20th Anniversary

November 18th marks the 20th anniversary of Metroid Prime, which marked Metroid’s successful transition into 3D. To celebrate the occasion, Kiwi Talkz has returned with a special guest, once again welcoming Jack Mathews to the show! Matthews was the Lead Technical Engineer for the Metroid Prime Trilogy, leaving Retro Studios after the completion of Metroid Prime 3. Matthews has agreed to come back for a second interview that no Metroid fan will want to miss. The discussion is all almost entirely about Metroid Prime with a few sprinkles of Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 4 that brings up some long time questions and plenty of new insights. Just a few examples include, why Kraid was planned but inevitably cut, how Retro was able to figure out how to show Samus reflection and the hurdles that had to be overcome and why the Speed Booster/Shinespark was never implemented. In the later third of the interview the conversation switches to a few topics about Metroid Prime 2 such as the bosses of Metroid Prime 2 and the difficulty of implementing and balancing the light bubbles the player used as sanctuaries in the dark world. The last segment involves talking about wants and expectations for Metroid Prime 4, how fans can have wildly exaggerated expectations capping off with Matthews and Kiwi reflecting on Metroid Prime as a whole and how much Metroid Prime means to Kiwi, helping him through a difficult part of his life.

All this and so much more in this celebration of Metroid Prime’s 20th anniversary, check it out below. Are you going back to play Metroid Prime for the anniversary? Let us know in the comments below!
