Metroid Musing: What’s Your Favorite amiibo Skin for the Federation Force Mechs?

I think we could all probably agree that 2016’s Metroid Prime: Federation Force wasn’t exactly the way Metroid fans wanted to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise, but to give the devil his due, there were some parts of the multiplayer-focused title that were pretty decent. Top among the cool things Federation Force did was offer players a way to customize the look of their mech a bit, letting you choose different colors and designs to allow a bit of personality to show through. In particular, one thing I enjoyed a lot was the skins that my amiibo unlocked.

From using Mario or Bowser to unlock the classic red and blue look in Blast Ball to having Samus and Zero Suit Samus give players unique paint jobs for the main game, I always appreciated that detail. My favorite mech design actually wouldn’t come until Federation Force had been out for well over a year; the new Metroid amiibo that was released with Metroid: Samus Returns unlocked a pretty sweet paint job called the “Flying Life-Form“, which quickly became by default skin whenever I piloted my mech.
